Recycling & Trash: To keep West Georgetown and Burleith looking clean and beautiful, it is important that all residents obey the District's regulations regarding household and bulk trash. As a service to the community, the Office of Off Campus Student Life conducts a weekly inspection of student houses in the area to ensure that the trash both in front of houses and in the alleys is kept under control. If the Office of Off Campus Student Life deems the trash situation at a house unsatisfactory, a citation will be issued. The following sanctions will be imposed for violations: First Violation: $150 fine per house + 5 work sanction hours per resident Second Violation: $250 fine per house + 10 work sanction hours per resident Third Violoation: $350 fine per house + 15 work sanction hours per resident. Trash Pickup Days Burleith: Thursdays West Georgetown: Tuesdays and Fridays Recycling: Thursdays in Burleith; Fridays in Georgetown. Put your trash out after 6:30 PM the night before pickup Take your trash cans in before 8:00 PM the day of pickup; do not leave them in the sidewalk or alley. Proper Trash Disposal: Burleith Since trash pickup is only once a week in Burleith, you must dispose of all trash in a green Supercan. To obtain another Supercan or to replace a damaged one, call D.C. Public Works at 311 or go to the Supercan website and follow the instructions. West Georgetown Make sure all of your trash is included within plastic or metal cans with tight-fitting lids. No garbage may be placed on the ground (even if it is enclosed within plastic bags) or corralled inside your fence or stairs. Bulk trash (larger items requiring special pickup like mattresses or futons) is picked up by appointment only, with the exception of move-in/move-out trash, which is picked up by the University at the beginning and end of the academic year. To have bulk trash removed from your house, call the Department of Public Works at 311. Return to Top • Home Page • Print Version
